Crater Lake was formed about 7,700 years ago after the eruption of Mt. Mazama. It is 5 x 6 miles across and almost 2,000 feet deep (the deepest lake in America and the 9th deepest in the world). The caldera rim reaches from 7,000 to 8,000 feet.
